Grouse Grind: Stairways of Hell

So this past Saturday, I've finally did the Grouse Grind with my cousin for the first time!!

For those who don't know:

The Grouse Grind® is a 2.9-kilometre trail up the face of Grouse Mountain, commonly referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster.”

This trail is very challenging. Keep in mind that there is a wide range of mountaintop trails that might better suit the average hiker.

I've heard many stories about the hike ever since high school but never had the chance/too lazy/too scared to actually do it. One of my friends recently told me that you had to do some ninja shit and cross over rivers!! I was like WTF, sounds a bit scary but challenging. People have described it as brutal, and hard. My expectation of the hike was super, duper high.

My cousin & I on the bus, on our way to Grouse Mountain. The trip took about 1.5 hours... Next time I'm getting a ride there. :S

My cousin asked me before we started what my goal was (usually in terms of time, how long to get to the top).

My answer: To survive.

I would not even call myself a fit person. I worked out for most of the month of May (bought a monthly gym pass) and just ran 1-2 times between June-July, but not consistently enough to be ready for the grind.

I was so scared of the obstacles I would encounter!!! It was most likely due to the fear of the unknown. Not knowing what lies ahead of that mountain. But I compared it to life. So deep eh?? I do not know the hard situations that I will encounter in my future to reach my goal, but I know there will be some.

I tried my best to sleep as early as possible the night before since my cousin & I decided to meet up at 9:30AM. I set up TWO alarms, my clock+my iPhone, NONE of them rang and I ended up waking at 8:50.. My only breakfast was two yogurt and a glass of milk. GG.

But good thing I wasn't that naive, and did pack a big frozen water bottle, and a towel for the hike the night before.

Here's the entrance of the grind.

So normal la! Just a gate. No grouse grind workers or anything.. it's like just a gate to hell and you just walk in and out, no probs, easy peasy. O_O

The timer! You start your timer by scanning the card, and it beeps. So cool! No need for those stop watches anymore.

Let's go!

The first few steps.

I was really pumped, I was like OKAY LET'S DO THIS! Here's the first 'challenge', STAIRS!

And then my cousin goes on to say "Yepps! So this is basically how the rest of the hike is."

LOLOLLOL WTF? So basically the whole hike is just an unending staircase?!??! Okay I know it's not easy or anything, but I was SO READY to bring out those ninja skills and jump across rivers...

They divided the hike into four quarters, and each quarter you pass there would be a sign. The first one, in my opinion, was the hardest and longest.

Picture taken during one of our many breaks, hahahahaha. Side note: Holy shit my eyes are creepily big..

We look so happy but we were starting to feel a bit tired! It was here that we met this other guy who was doing the grind for the first time as well. He asked if there were vending machines on the second quarter. We were like no wtf? In the middle of a fucking mountain?! Hahahaha. This guy brought NO water with him AND drank coffee before his hike... so crazy. That's one way to kill yourself. X_X But nice guy nonetheless...

I was SO happy to see this sign, you wouldn't believe!!! Just three more to go!!

With the iPhone it's SO easier to snap pictures within a second! I didn't need to take out my bulky camera. Just a click, and I can continue on without the hassle! :D:D There was also phone signal throughout the hike so some people were making phone calls and such. Makes me a bit sad that we can't even just try to enjoy nature fully for an hour. xD But that's the future!

HALF MARK, HALF MARK!!! I can do this !!!!!!!!

Lolol I accidentally bumped my head on that guy's backpack during the hike cause he was in front of me. Thought I hit his butt at first.. awkward. But stupid guy wouldn't move when I was trying to take the pic!! How rude!!

There were many times I just looked up, and I'm like "Holy shit when does the stairs end!!!" And they were so steep too... but I just looked down, and focused on taking the next step each time. To be honest, I never once doubt if I would make it to the top or wanted to quit. I knew lots of people around me did though! I took lots of 10 sec breaks, but they were enough for me to keep going every time. I must say, I was very proud and surprised of myself.

Taken at another break. Thumbs up for motivation!

Got really excited when I passed this mark! I was alone at this point since my cousin and I had different paces. :P

The view down at some point of the hike!

Blue mountains! OMGOMG Almost at the top!! I heard the scenery was BREATH-TAKING.

And finally...

I made it.

Took me 1hr20mins.

The average is 1hr30mins. I shall beat my record next time!

There's no view as you can tell due to the fogginess that day.. But it was actually perfect weather for a hike. Not scorching hot at all, but cool-warm so you can actually sweat it out without dying! I think that's what made it less brutal for me. xD

Okay I ain't no show off or anything, but seriously, I felt fine. Didn't feel like dying, or giving up ever. Of course I felt tired from time to time. But that was it! I think it was cause my expectations were so high that I expected ALOT more. In the end it made it easier for me??

Mind set did help me get through the hike alot. I kept reminding myself to keep moving, and if I couldn't do this.. HOW CAN I DO ANYTHING ELSE? Seriously! I read so much quotes on my spare time, but if I never put them to use, then that's useless!!

That's a wrap!! I hope to do this at least one more time by the end of summer.~

My iPhone Story

I can't believe it's been almost a month with no new blog post just because I had nothing to blog about. Seriously. It's not like I've been home on my ass the whole summer either, but there wasn't anything exciting happening in my life at the moment. Sounds so sad, QQ. Cue the violin music please~*

But, but finally!!! Finally something that has happened....  My baby has arrived..

My iPhone 4s!!!!

It's been a long one week search. Rejection, after rejection on craiglist and even noobs that don't reply to be after deciding on which day to meet up!! #ihateyou I'm a very impatient person, and when I want something, I want it now. Especially after I looked in my bank account last Friday morning to see such glorious numbers!! (I knew I would easily spend it on makeup or something if I don't buy a phone soon. -_-)

It was so hard to get a hold of somebody. If it was a good price, once I shoot them an e-mail, most of the time it was already sold.

The highest price I was willing to spend was $480. But only for BNIB. (brand new in box)

At first I didn't mind a "mint condition" one but then I realize if I'm going to splurge on a lot of money I might as well search harder for a brand new one since I don't want someone's boogers on it! I know my phone itself is quite dirtay from my fingers... :X

The first guy to reply me was for a BNIB (Brand new in Box) White iPhone 4s, for $480 and he was willing to meet me somewhere near my home! It was perfect! Most of the "good" prices on craiglist was from outside my city where it is a bit sketchy, I don't have a car to drive there, AND I'm not familiar with the surroundings so it was better that I sticked within my bounds.

So it sounded all perfect and stuff, and I even asked my brother to come with me for some man-protection and since he knows a bit more about phones than I do! Always scared of scams and it is my first time meeting someone up from craiglist. I was always trying to nit-pick every text the guy sent me, and even wondered if he was trust-worthy since he spelled "tomorrow" as "tomarow." LOL! Wouldn't have really minded it was like "tmr." But bad english = unprofessoinal!! Muhahahaha..

But my brother kept telling me how 'overpriced' it was, and I told him to go on craiglist to look himself! The price ranges were $420-550 for an iPhone, used and brand new. We then had a small argument about it, and he said I could get a BNIB for $400 if I was patient.. Pshh yeah right! Maybe in a year it will be, but I'm not waiting that long. Hmph, I have already been waiting for half a year!

The morning of our meet-up, I saw an ad on craiglist for a BNIB White iPhone selling for $450, and it was 32g instead of 16g. I hurried and e-mailed the guy right away to call me asap. And after fuming around for an hour, I texted the original guy to cancel our meet up.

I met up with a girlfriend that afternoon and discussed with her about my search. She bought her iPhone 3gs herself on craigslist as well, so she had some experience under her belt! She convinced me that the $480 was a good price, and I should have went for it. I hurried and texted the guy for it, and he said it was ALREADY sold! I can't believe it! My heart broke.

The $450 guy did e-mail me back though (even though I specifically requested him to call me!), asking to meet up on Wednesday/Thursday but he never replied me back afterwards... o_o I was so tempted to e-mail back "Y U NO REPLY ME U PIECE OF CRAP FHIDOSFHIOHF." I have a really bad temper. Especially ever since I started playing League of Legends.. But I held back this time.

So my search continued and at 2am in the morning while surfing on craiglist.. my boyfriend linked me to an ad for a BNIB iPhone 4s White 16g for $550. It said that 'the phone has arrived two days ago and comes with one-year warranty.' I was like 'Holy shit $550!' but my boyfriend convinced me to try to bargain with him.. ZzzZ I'm very bad at bargaining and I don't usually like to. But I shot the guy a quick simple e-mail, "$480."

I woke up the next morning WIDE AWAKE at 9:45AM even though I slept at 2:30AM the night before... Iunno why but I had a good feeling inside me, and I knew something good was going to happen. Perhaps even a reply from an iPhone person! I shot up from my bed and hurried to turn on my laptop. And there it was... a reply from the $550 guy. He agreed to a $480 price and asked me to call him asap! I called him right away, and he was pretty professional about it. Seemed like a really nice guy, great English, and agreed to meet near my house as well!

I was sooo excited, and called my boyfriend right away (waking him up in the process) to share my happy news! I didn't think he would accept the $550 deal since he stated it was 'firm' on the ad. But just my luck! And with warranty too. Thank you God for always watching over me!! Things do happen for a reason. I just kept praying that the phone isn't fake, or it's a scam, or anything!! :(

Rushed out of my house, ran to the bank to withdraw cash, and met up at our meeting place at noon! The guy's name was Eddie btw, and he was absolutely wonderful if I had not hinted that already. The iPhone+warranty was already laid out on the table, and the first thing he said was that I can open it and do whatever I like! I asked him to open it up since I didn't want to damage it or anything.. I was really excited, and am so glad my boyfriend was there with me since I would have just been like 'Yes, here's the cash!! Bye!!' My boyfriend was patient enough to look over the phone and made sure it worked and all that manly stuff.. ~ Eddie even told me that another person offered him $500, but since he promised me already, that he would keep to his word. Such a nice guy eh la? Could have easily ignored me like that other douche, and made an extra 20 bucks!

I was extremely happy for the rest of the day, and my peers told me I seemed unusually 'hyper.' Lolwtf I swear I'm always weird and hyper! But just a bit more that day...

I have an LG phone so that means I needed to get a micro sim card for my new baby! Headed to the Fido (my phone carrier) stand at the mall and the lady cut my sim card so I would save $10 on buying a new one. She put it in my new iPhone and it worked! Except.. all my contacts were not on there. QQ Okay I didn't know that you were supposed to save the contacts on your sim card? I never knew I was so technology challenged until that day. -_-"

So we tried putting the new micro into my old phone again and it wouldn't work. The lady fucked it by cutting it just really badly, and not clean.. either way it came down to my boyfriend telling me to put my sim card in my iPhone. And I derped/fucked it really, really hard.

I put the sim card in without the card-medal thing.......

The moment I put it in, I KNEW someone was wrong, and I KNEW I was in a lot of trouble. After some fidgeting trying to get the sim card out with the paper clip, and being basically labelled an idiot by everyone around me .. we went into the Apple store that was right in front of us. I don't know why we didn't go in earlier, we just thought we could do it ourselves. So we told the front door guy our problem, and he totally had to hold in his laughter and told us to meet up with a 'Genius.' I never walked in that far in an Apple Store and had absolutely no clue wtf he was talking about except that it is someone that will fix my phone..

I get to the back, explain situation again and the guys laughed as well. Omg it was so embarassing!! But the guy said 'I'll brb.' And walked in the back door, 2mins later he came out with the sim card and iPhone not attached! Yay! Magic!!! :D

Another problem arises.

My iPhone wouldn't read my sim card.. FCUKKKKKKKKKKKK!!

It was sooo frustrating, and had to take another trip to the Apple store and they gave me a new Fido sim card FOR FREE. Apple you are amazing, no wonder so many people are willing to suck your dicks. ~

It detected every other carrier except for mine. And it would take about 5 mins to search for them...

I went home to try to 'fix' it myself by playing with the sim card and Googling some answers. It somehow starts reading my sim card but now instead of searching 'Searching..' on the top left hand corner, it says 'No service.' I left it there for the rest of night since nothing I did was working, and thought that calling my service provider would be the best thing I can do the next morning.

You probably read a few times that I refer to my new iPhone as 'my baby.' This is my first iPhone and I intend to use it for a very long time. I ended up naming her Azumi. :) I wanted a feminine name that's not too common, as opposed to "Ayumi." I know I may seem a bit weird, but hey I spent alot on her!!

Anyways went through FOUR people trying to help me restore connection to my phone from Fido.. but none of them worked. I had to go to the Apple store and let the 'Geniuses' check it out for themselves.

This is the fourth day this week that I went to the mall.. on Wednesday I had work so that was the only day I didn't go. But FML that's so sad.. I think I went in every store already and know the promotions.. Anyways I bumped into the same two guys that laughed/helped me with my iPhone sim issues yesterday.. I was a bit embarassed.. LOL! Again, they couldn't fix it on the spot so I had to schedule in a time to get it fixed.

I had to walk around the mall for about two hours before my appointment. -_- But I managed to find the iPhone cases that I've been searching for! I went to look for them yesterday but they all seemed to disappear. And now all of a sudden they appear at a random stall near the food court that I never remembered. Life works so weird sometimes! I bought two cases for Azumi right away. :)

Sadly in the end they couldn't fix it and ended giving me a new phone! Thank you warranty!! I was a bit sad I had to say goodbye to Azumi though.. I really didn't want to replace it and was hoping they would be able to fix it..

RIP Azumi.

You will never be forgotten. :(

The new phone is named Moshi though.

So welcome Moshi to this world!! :D

I can't wait to use Instagram and the dual-camera to blog more!!

PS. I can't imagine bringing a real baby into this world any-time soon.. if I can't even handle a smartphone.

PSS. Thought my phone was having low call volumes but it was just the clear plastic sticker covering the hearing hole. Phew, thought I needed to take another trip to the Apple store.

iPhone Cases

Many people get the iPhone because of it's amazing features like Siri, Instagram, Draw Something, and the applications. But now Androids are catching on and popular apps such as Instagram, and Draw Something are being available to their servers. They are even less than half the price of the iPhone 4s for almost the same thing!!

But they are just imitations, iPhone ftw!!

Whatever bro, it's just a $300 phone. You're going to be getting a new one once a new model comes out, or  when your phone stops working from being dropped so much. LOLOLOL

Others get it for their undying love for Apple. You brand-whores. I know people that get every generation of the iPods, iPads, and iPhones. They get a Mac because they claim it is 10x better than a PC. Look, you're not a graphic designer or need it to music produce. Why waste a grand more just for the name? The most you probably use out of your Mac is the fun webcam program. But hey, it's your money. I shouldn't judge.

I'm not here to bash about Apple or anything. I do admire Steve Jobs for his work ethics, and brilliant ideas. It just urks me when people just get something to follow a trend because it's 'cool' to have it. Or basically, everyone has the same thing and has a lack of originality.

But despite it all, I've been saving up for an iPhone 4s of my own.

*Everyone start throwing apples/oranges/rocks/teddy bears at me.

My reason for desiring this piece of technology is not for either reasons listed above, but simply a vanity shallow reason, the iPhone cases. I would in a heart beat get an Android (and to save my own wallet) if only people made cute phone cases for them!! But nopes, the marketing world only focuses on the iPhone/Blackberry because that's what the mass consumer owns. -_-

I swear I must not be the only girl/person in the world to have this reason!!!

Angry Birds, Instagram, Draw Something, used to contribute to me getting an Android over an iPhone but   now that is possible on both systems!! But now the only reason that is making me stand by my decision on the phone cases, and rightfully so because the cases are beyond chio!

Right now I own a LG Cookie. I'm the only one in my group of friends that own a regular non-smartphone. :(

I don't know whats up with me and food-named phones. My last phone was the LG Chocolate. LOL! And my friend had the LG Candy. XD

It's touch screen, and everything still works well. (I had it for 2.5 years, which is quite long for the average young adult myself) It only started bothering me recently when the battery life kept draining really fast, and it lags alot when I try to text. I'm an impatient person so it is really pissing!!! Oh and also it likes to butt-dial people constantly when it's just sitting innocently in my bag because it has no password lock. LAME!!!! I want to chuck it at the wall sometimes..

But enough! The sole purpose of this blog post is all about the iPhone cases that I desire once I get my own iPhone. :D I plan to get a few, and just switch it up once in a while. There's just too many creative, cute, kawaii, awesome case out there to stick to one!!! I think an iPhone case can be an awesome way to express yourself that day, and match with your outfit.

*Expect lots of pink, girly cuteness, & Hello Kitty. ~

1) Pink Bunny Case

I believe one of the first creative iPhone cases that really captured my eyes was the bunny one:

Omg it is TOO cute for words!! I'm sure many of girls owned this!! And apparently they have a Blackberry version for it too. The tail looks so fluffy I'm gonna die!!!  I used to see many females holding this around, but not so much anymore!! Either way it's still on my wishlist. Bunnies, after all, are my most favourite animals ever since I was a little girl. Oh, and I like the pink one!! (Of course) My friend owns the white one but apparently it got really dirty. :( Whomp, whomp..

2) Pink Hello Kitty Bunny

Remember how I just stated my favourite animals are bunnies? Well combine that with my Hello Kitty obsession and you have WIN!!!!!!! Also notice my phone charm is a Hello Kitty Bunny as well. ;)

I think this one is a must-have for sure. Especially for me. :))))))))))

3) Simple Classic Hello Kitty Case

I'm sure these were quite popular when it first came out too! The only thing that turns me off about this is the $40 CAD price tag but I think it should be down to $30 now.. O_o Most of the iPhone cases I encounter was like $10-20. Not sure if I want to spend that much on this. My friend has this and says it blocks her phone's signal! LOL! Well that's not very useful, is it?

4) Pink Rubber Version

This is very similar to the previous version except it's pink, and made in a different material: Rubber. Not sure which one I like better.

5) Hello Kitty Corner Bow Pastel Colours

LOVE the simplicity of these!!! I don't necessarily just want the pink one either. The yellow and blue are not bad. :)

6) My Melody

Taking a break from Hello Kitty and thinking of this cute My Melody phone case!!! It's pink, has florals, and the cute character's head right smack in the middle. :D

7) Floral Case
I LOVE floral designs!! And this is no exception. :) Very feminine, and classy. For days where I don't want to be judged as another typical Hello Kitty asian loving girl.

8) Another Hello Kitty iPhone Case

Okay, so basically I like everything with Hello Kitty's face on it and this is no exception. LOL

9) Big Bear

Haven't seen this in person, just saw it while I was googling some iPhone cases pictures. There was a short hype on these big-ass iPhone cases that comes in a 'Stitch' and 'Rilakkuma' versions. Very cute, but a bit inconvenient with the size.

10) Simple Black Gold Stud

Although I am normally very girly, I really like getting in touch with my 'dark side' from time to time. And this really expresses that!! I think it's very bad ass and cool. :D

There's an iPhone case for everyone's individuality! Check out some of these cool ones.

For the fake food/fried rice lover!

This ice cream melting one looks pretty good.

What kind of phone do you have? And are you obsess with cases as I am? :X
